Mellanox Showcases Support for Commodity Server-Based Virtual Storage Appliance at VMworld 2008
LAS VEGAS, NV – September 15th, 2008 –
Mellanox(R) Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) (TASE:MLNX), a
leading supplier of semiconductor-based server and storage
interconnect products, today announced that at VMworld 2008 it will be
demonstrating a green data center solution composed of virtualized
server and SAN using its leading ConnectX(R) EN 10GigE NIC adapter.
The demonstration will include VMware Infrastructure 3 and the
LeftHand Networks(R) Virtual SAN Appliance (VSA(TM)) running on
cost-effective and low power V Series Blade Servers from MDS Micro.
ConnectX EN delivers wire-speed performance for VMware ESX through MDS
Micro servers, enabling higher performing SAN appliances using
commodity servers.
"When the priorities are cost control, environmental
responsibility, higher utilization, and openness rather than
proprietary technology, MDS Micro V Series Blade Servers with VMware
ESX and LeftHand Networks VSA deliver a well-orchestrated solution
that IT managers cannot afford to ignore," said Wayne Augsburger, vice
president of business development at Mellanox Technologies. "Mellanox
ConnectX EN supports all features needed for the virtualized and
unified data center fabric, and delivers the high-performance I/O
fabric to connect and complement this value chain."
"The Virtual SAN Appliance solution uses the I/O fabric to cluster
together multiple VMware ESX hosts to transform existing server
storage capacity into a virtual storage system," said Raju Bopardikar,
chief technology officer, LeftHand Networks. "The Mellanox
demonstration showcases how ConnectX EN delivers the I/O features and
performance required for clustering to enable the Virtual SAN
Appliance to be on par with performance levels in proprietary and
expensive SAN solutions, while significantly reducing cost and power
consumption."
"MDS Micro's leading family of V Series Blade Servers include
cost-effective and high-performance Mellanox Connect EN 10GigE
adapters as a 'LAN on Motherboard' (LOM) or mezzanine card," said
Karriem Adams, vice president of sales at MDS Micro. "Coupling that
with VMware ESX and the LeftHand Networks VSA results in a holistic,
end-to-end green data center solution of which we are very proud."
"Mellanox has been an active and consistent participant in the
VMware Community Source Program, IOVP and VMware ESX DDK programs,
leading to interoperability of its I/O adapter products with the
VMware platform," said Shekar Ayyar, vice president of infrastructure
alliances at VMware. "We are pleased to see Mellanox I/O solutions
complementing VMware Infrastructure to make VMware software the ideal
delivery platform for cost-effective virtual appliance solutions."
ConnectX EN is a highly integrated Ethernet product incorporating
many of the physical layer technologies to provide a cost-optimized
and power-optimized solution. ConnectX EN supports not only
virtualization acceleration features like NetQueue and SR-IOV but also
supports some of the new I/O consolidation Ethernet features like Data
Center Ethernet and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).
